Three inmates assaulted at Springhill Institution, triggers lockdown and police investigation

Three inmates at Springhill Institution were involved in an assault over the weekend that left them with minor injuries.

Police say a temporary lockdown was put in place on the medium security federal correctional centre following the incident to maintain safety and security for staff and other inmates.

All three individuals were taken to an off-site hospital for treatment and have since been returned to the facility.

The Correctional Service of Canada says it’s reviewing the incident and confirms that appropriate actions have been taken. Visits have also been suspended until further notice.
