Some Nova Scotian’s will now have more access to the Crisis Assistance and Response community service.
The CARE program originally launched in 2025 and was available Monday to Friday, but starting today residents in Dartmouth, Woodlawn, and Cole Harbour can access the service 24/7.
The community-based pilot program provides in-person support for people 16 years and older experiencing non-emergency crises related to mental health, substance use, and personal well-being.
Staff are trained to offer supports like trauma-informed care, harm reduction, mental health first aid, suicide prevention, and cultural humility.
CARE is a consent-based service and does not respond to emergencies involving violence or weapons. They says the service offers a safe alternative to calling police or other first responders when they may not be the best fit.
