Fire and Emergency crews in Halifax are responding to multiple fires around the HRM.
Fire officials say they were first called to Prospect Road in Hatchet Lake after reports of a house on fire around 4:30 Friday morning. They say the situation is now under control, but crews remain on scene. They also say the homeowner is safe, though it is not yet known whether anyone was inside when the fire started.
Meanwhile in Burnside, a pickup truck caught fire on Highway 102 at Exit 2 eastbound toward Akerley Boulevard. Officials say that investigation has been turned over to Halifax Regional Police.
Multiple HRFE stations are responding to both emergencies, and drivers are reporting significant traffic backups in both directions near the scenes.
Few details are available at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
Around 9 a.m., firefighters responded to another house fire, this time in Lewis Lake on Birch Bear Run near Hubley.
HRFE says members arrived quickly and found a fire on the roof of a residence. A hose line was used to put water on the visible fire, with crews working to contain and extinguish it. They remain on scene and are asking people to avoid the area.
