Another wind farm project in Antigonish County just got the green light from Nova Scotia.
An environmental assessment was approved for the Upper Afton Wind Project to be built between Upper Afton, Upper Big Tracadie as well as Antigonish and Guysborough Counties.
The province says it is owned by the Membertou Development Corp. and EverWind Holdings.
Construction is slated to begin in 2027, be operational in 2029, to generate $1.5 million in municipal tax revenue each year.
It will have up to 28 eight-megawatt turbines and will employ 200 to 250 people over 35 years.
The energy created will be used to produce green hydrogen.
This is the second wind farm in quad counties to receive environmental approval in recent weeks.
The Eigg Mountain Wind Farm got the go ahead from Nova Scotia earlier this month.
It will have 22 turbines near Connors Mountain Road in Antigonish County, producing 150 MW of power to be operational by 2028.
However, it was not without its share of controversy.
The Moose Conservation Association of Nova Scotia vehemently opposed the Eigg Mountain project, claiming it was detrimental to the already fragile moose populatin.
President of the Association, Al Muir, is considering legal action to prevent any further movement on the farm.
