Spooky season is upon us and Duran Duran has unveiled a fresh rendition of Talking Heads’ ‘Psycho Killer.’ This rendition features Victoria De Angelis from Måneskin, showcasing her exceptional skills on bass and vocals, alongside former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor on guest guitar.
This track is part of Duran Duran’s upcoming Halloween-themed album, ‘Danse Macabre,’ set for release on October 27th via Tape Modern and BMG.
The first cover released from ‘Danse Macabre,’ Duran Duran’s ‘Psycho Killer,’ offers an electrifying and haunting take on the Talking Heads classic. Amy Chabot of the Morning Surge said it “sounds like the original but clubbed up.”
Victoria De Angelis, reflecting on her collaboration with Duran Duran, “It’s a tremendous honor to be invited by John Taylor and the band to contribute to their album. I met John at a party, and we immediately connected over our shared passion for music and bass. I mentioned that Tina Weymouth was my ultimate idol in terms of coolness, attitude, and incredible musicianship, and John revealed that she had been one of his music heroes as well.”
She continued, “Several months later, John contacted me and mentioned they were working on a cover of ‘Psycho Killer,’ and he wanted to know if I would be interested in participating. It was absolutely surreal to be asked by one of the greatest bass players ever to play one of my favorite songs with Duran Duran. I’m immensely grateful and honored, and recording with John was an unforgettable experience. He was incredibly supportive, encouraging me to bring my unique style to the track. I will always cherish that day.”
John Taylor, Duran Duran’s bassist, shared his thoughts on working with Victoria, stating, “She’s arguably the most influential electric bassist in the music scene today. I met a few members of Måneskin at a gathering, and they insisted, ‘You must meet our bassist.’ She’s an absolute dynamo! I asked her, ‘Who inspired you?’ and Vic replied, ‘Tina Weymouth.’ So when ‘Psycho Killer’ was chosen for the album, I thought, ‘I’m going to challenge her to a bass showdown!'”
