A massive fundraising campaign is underway while Halifax’s hospital system is being revamped.
The QEII Foundation has launched a $100-million campaign to improve care and update equipment while $2-billion redevelopment project moves through various stages of construction.
The name of the campaign is “We Are” with the money will go toward new technology, research projects, and patient support.
“Our community identified the changes they want to see happen. Better access to care. First-in-the-world technologies. Improved patient outcomes. Opportunities for discovery at every corner. The goal is $100 million, and we’re not stopping until we reach it.” – QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation
The redevelopment project is to move existing services out of the existing Centennial, Victoria and Dickson buildings at the Victoria General site in Halifax to prepare for their eventual closure.
Some key aspects of the project involve a new cancer-care unit and expanded inpatient care centre at the Halifax Infirmary and new outpatient clinic in Bayer’s Lake.
The Infirmary will also have more than 600 beds, 28 operating rooms, 33 intensive care beds and 15 intermediate care beds. The clinic in Bayers Lake will be equipped to handle an estimated 28,000 clinic visits and 30,000 X-ray and lab visits a year.
The $2-billion project will be funded with public and private investments.
