A major upgrade to Nova Scotia’s healthcare system is underway.
The Minister of Health and Wellness says the One Person One Record (OPOR) system is still on track to start in May.
“We’re still going to track towards that date every day. If there is a situation or a problem that’s recognized, the teams immediately begin to work on that,” says Michelle Thompson.
The OPOR system will tie your health data to a single record which will make it easier to access wherever you get medical care.
She says it is a huge development with members from IWK, Nova Scotia Health and Department of Health and Wellness on the project management team.
Thompson commends IWK for implementing the system first to help work out any kinks before the full rollout.
“Even in all of this feedback, nobody’s asking for the project to be stopped. It’s a really important part of the modernization of our health care system. And I think we all know we have to go through this bit of pain to get to the right place,” she shared.
