Possible propane leak prompts evacuation in downtown Halifax

A propane leak has fire crews evacuating residents in downtown Halifax.

Earlier this evening, firefighters from the South and West End responded to reports of a propane leak on Larch street. Upon arrival, the situation was quickly escalated to a full hazardous materials response.

Some homes in the surrounding area have been evacuated, and Nova Scotia Power says there is an emergency outage affecting customers for public safety.

Police are asking people to avoid the area as the Hazardous Materials Team deals with the scene.
