A trial will be held later this year for a man accused of starting the largest wildfire in our province’s history.
Twenty-two-year-old Dalton Clark Stewart of Villagedale, Shelburne County pleaded not-guilty to three counts under the Forests Act.
He is charged in relation to the Barrington Lake wildfire last year, which destroyed or damaged dozens of homes.
Judge James Burrill set two days aside for his trial in Shelburne Provincial Court, November 27 and 28.
A pre-trial will take place on October 9.
The massive fire burned over 23,000 hectares and was active for nearly two months.
Stewart’s charges under the Forests Act include lighting a fire on privately owned land without permission, failing to take reasonable efforts to prevent the spread of a fire, and leaving a fire unattended.
