As part of a provincial initiative to upgrade existing community centres and build new ones, a few facilities around HRM have around $250,000 in grants.
The Sambro and Area Community Association received $150,000 for a feasibility study to develop a new community centre.
It would have things like a shoreline gazebo and, in the future, a floating dock for barrier-free fishing at Grand Lake in Williamswood.
The Legion in Spryfield will get $58,000 and the Association of Bayside Camp and Retreat Centre will get $44,000, for generators.
“Our government understands the fundamental importance of community spaces,” said Brendan Maguire, Minister of Community Services and MLA for Halifax Atlantic, on behalf of Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “They are essential in maintaining personal relationships, staying physically active, keeping each other safe and fostering a sense of belonging.”
These grants are part of a series of announcements across the province in recent weeks.
