Music Nova Scotia hands out awards at NSMW in Yarmouth

Nova Scotia Music Week ended with an awards ceremony in Yarmouth.

Cape Breton singer-songwriter Rankin MacInnis won the coveted ‘Entertainer of the Year’ award.

He says it means a lot.

“It means I’ve got some big shoes of my own to fill again for next year, I’ll be putting on some more shows. It’s certaintly an honour,” said MacInnis.

Classified, who was not in attendance, picked up Hip Hop Recording of the Year.

Acclaimed trombonist Andrew Jackson led the way with 3 awards, including Musician of the Year.

Jah’Milla, who won African Nova Scotian Artist of the Year described the weekend as a ‘hurricane.’

“To be able to see all of my creative peers from the community, and to meet the delegates and learn about my artistry and how I can make it better, it’s an incredible opportunity that Music Nova Scotia has given to us artists,” said Jah’Milla.

Yarmouth’s Phil Demille won Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Coal Shed Music Festival.

The weekend was packed with dozens of performances on several stages throughout the town, along with conferences and workshops.
