It’s the news many in Shelburne County have been waiting for.
Those evacuated are able to return home.
First up, those who have damaged or destroyed properties, they’ll be allowed in from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Then all roads will open to everyone.
Highway 103 and all side roads will be open, except for the Gedde’s Bridge near Port Clyde.
That was destroyed in the fire, and the province is working on a temporary bridge.
Barrington Warden Eddie Nickerson says it’s a good day.
“People are getting back, I’ve had some calls from residents and they’re very happy this has happened, after nearly two weeks of evacuations,” said Nickerson.
Firefighters are still patrolling the areas for hotspots, and Nova Scotia Power is still restoring electricity.
Nickerson says the community has come together, and many will need help with getting their properties back in order.
“Support services will be needed, and we’ll be able to continue to work with residents and help them out the best we can. A lot of people will need assistance with small repairs like siding, and cleaning from smoke damage. That community effort is still needed, and we’re all in this together, and we’ll all come out of it.”
The municipalities of Shelburne and Barrington are asking people to not visit the affected areas unless you’re a resident or absolutely necessary.
The fire is being held but is still considered out of control.
