The wildfire in Shelburne has extended the lobster season again.
LFA 33’s season will now close Friday at midnight.
Many firefighters are also fishers, and conditions are unfavourable to retrieve their gear.
Dan Fleck with the Brazil Rock 33/34 Lobster Association says they’ve teamed up with the Coldwater Lobster Association to collect donations.
“People have been dropping off donations like cash, fuel cards or food and water. We’ve made 4-5 trips down to the relief centres in Barrington,” said Fleck.
For those who want to help fishers who have lost gear, a wildfire relief fund is in place at all Vernon d’Eon fishing supplies locations.
Fleck says the fires will have a huge economic impact on the sector, in what’s already been a challenging year.
But many fishers have been helping those who lost everything by lending their boats and gear to retrieve their traps.
Fleck says a fishing gear donation will be set up, with date and location to be announced.
