Mooseheads set for highly anticipated showdown with Remparts

The top two teams in the QMJHL are ready for battle in the finals.

The Halifax Mooseheads are flying to Quebec ahead of tomorrow’s Game 1 against the Remparts.

Mooseheads play-by-play announcer Garreth MacDonald says it should be an incredible atmosphere.

“It’s an NHL-ready rink (the Videotron Centre,) I just can’t wait for that. The atmosphere in both buildings is going to be absolutely electric,” said MacDonald.

The Moose rattled off four straight wins in the semifinal after going down 2-0 to Sherbrooke.

Quebec are a perfect 12-0 in these playoffs.

MacDonald says the Mooseheads will need everyone to be at the top of their game.

“They’ll need those top guys to continue to produce, but this should be an absolutely incredible final, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.”

He says the play of goaltender Mathis Rousseau was incredible against Sherbrooke, he recorded shutouts in Games 5 and 6.

Halifax also played most of that series without top-scorer Jordan Dumais, but there’s a chance he could be back in the final.

It’s the third ever playoff meeting between the clubs, Halifax won the previous series in 2012 and 2019 in seven games.

Remparts Head Coach and Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy was targeted by Mooseheads fans in 2019, with fans sarcastically chanting his first name.

MacDonald believes there will be more of the same in this series.

Game 2 is Saturday, Games 3 and 4 go Tuesday and Wednesday night at Scotiabank Centre.

At last check, tickets for Halifax’s home games were only available high up in the upper bowl.

The series comes 10 years after the Mooseheads only championship, a five-game win over Baie-Comeau.
