Nova Scotian talent was on full display at an international trade skills competition.
The Abilympics were created to showcase the talents of people with disabilities in skilled trades and technologies. This year was the 10th iteration of the event and featured more than 400 competitors from 22 different countries coming together in Metz, France to compete.
Five competitors from Nova Scotia were there representing Team Canada, and four of them ended up coming with bronze medals.
Alishia MacRae won bronze in welding, Liam Crane and Andrew Thorne captured medals in team cooking, and Hadia Bedoui won bronze in electrical installations.

They trained for months leading up to the event, which took place over three days in late March.
“Being able to attend an event like this has been a life changing experience for the team,” said Courtney Gouthro, Executive Director with Skills Canada – Nova Scotia. “The pride our competitors felt after completing their projects was immeasurable. That’s a pride and confidence they can now carry into the workplace”.
