Attending Top Gun this past weekend was an experience to say the least.
I entered the theatre with very low expectations because who are we kidding, it’s still a sequel.
What I found was far and away the best sequel to any movie I’ve ever seen. Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connolly and Val Kilmer – yes, Val Kilmer – did not disappoint!

For the record, I won’t give any spoilers away. The Val Kilmer thing wasn’t a spoiler either. That’s been very well noted online.
Right before the movie gets underway though Tom Cruise comes on-screen. He’s sitting in a chair just talking to the camera. He says, “We made this movie for you”. Among other things, but he was 110% right. This wasn’t an arthouse flick. This was an in-your-face, highly entertaining and beautiful movie.
Will it win Oscars? Probably not. That’s not the point though. It was made with a hint of nostalgia, a hefty dose of appeal, a boat load of impact and just some flat out fun.
“TOP GUN MAVERICK” 9.5/10
Epic, Emotional, Satisfying and a masterpiece. It was worth the long wait. Starring Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connolly & Jon Hamm, directed by John Kosinski pic.twitter.com/JeoHzhkiIX

They don’t deep dive into a love story. They don’t deep dive into the original movie. They don’t deep dive into past friendships or relationships. You don’t need to re-watch the original to understand the little nuances etc (like in every Marvel or Star Wars movie ever made). It’s honestly the perfect mix of old and new.
I can’t hype it enough and I won’t. It’s on you now. Go check it out. You won’t be disappointed!
