The National Lacrosse League is scrapping all of its games set for this week.
It’s due rapidly increasing COVID infections related to the Omicron variant.
The NLL states it wants to maintain the competitive balance of its teams and the games will be rescheduled.
“We do this out of an abundance of caution which will keep the competitive balance of our league in place while making sure that our number one priority is, and always will be, the health and safety of our player, our coaches, our staff, and our fans.” – NLL
The NLL is three weeks into the 2021-22 season. Week 5 was set to see three games of action take place, with the Halifax Thunderbirds and Calgary Roughnecks set to kick things off on Thursday.
Games between New York and Colorado, along with San Diego and Saskatchewan, were also postponed.
Meantime, Halifax’s next home game on January 8 against the New York Riptide is postponed until February.
The Thunderbirds are 2-0 on the young season with wins over Toronto and Saskatchewan.
