The first major snowfall of the season has arrived in Halifax.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Ian Hubbard tells us the highest amount recorded in our region was 38 cm in Dartmouth.
Other areas that received over 30 cm included Clayton Park, Eastern Passage, and the Saint Margaret’s Bay area.
Hubbard explains why the snow piled up.
“One of the things that made this snow seem quite high is that it’s very fluffy and light,” Hubbard says. “A little bit easier for shovelling, but certainly a lot more of it, and when you combine that with some of those northeasterly winds we had overnight it gives a little bit of drifting.”
The snow has now moved over eastern Nova Scotia. It will end in the late afternoon in Cape Breton.
Hubbard doesn’t expect the snow to stick around as rain is in the weekend forecast along with highs reaching 12 degrees.
