Accelerated nursing students at Dalhousie are looking at another $3,300 from their student loans.
Currently, the provincial portion of the loan only covers 28 weeks of the 34-week program.
Brian Wong, Minister of Advanced Education, said this extra money will help cover the remaining six weeks.
“Nurses are a critical part of our healthcare system,” he said. “I am pleased our staff could act quickly to close this funding gap.”
Like all student loans, the amount each student receives is based on need.
Assessments on all 250 nursing students’ loans start Friday and students are expected to get the additional money within two weeks.
