Actor James Michael Tyler, best known as Gunther on FRIENDS, has passed away of prostate cancer at the age of 59.
James first revealed his cancer diagnosis, which stunned fans, as he’d just appeared in the reunion special and made no mention of it. He later clarified why he hadn’t gone public at that time — saying he didn’t wanna be a downer for the special moment.
He got the recurring role on FRIENDS because he was the only extra who could work the espresso machine.
