Who else forgot about this.
3 years ago, HRM decided to create designated smoking sections that prohibited people from smoking or vaping on municipal property outside the 91 designated smoking areas scattered throughout the municipality. or else you would be ticketed. Well in the last 3 years, they’ve only issued 13 tickets.

The main reason they brought this rule in was to stop people from smoking cannabis anywhere they wanted (it’s almost 3 years since cannabis became legal in Canada) He introduced an amendment to the bylaw to remove tobacco from the equation and only focus on cannabis, but that was voted down.
Maybe we’ll notice it more when everyone returns to work but this just seems like a huge waste of money. The city spent around $120,000 to purchase 600 receptacles and in 2019 the city budgeted $60,000 to service them.
