Two more illegal cannabis stores were raided in northeastern Nova Scotia.
RCMP say they were in Whycocomagh and Eskasoni and a number of products were seized.
In Whycocomagh hash was found along with hundreds of cannabis items that resemble things like candy, chocolate bars, chips and cereal.
A person at each location was charged and issued summary offence tickets.
“We’re committed to reducing the impact of illegal cannabis storefronts in our communities,” says Supt. Jason Popik of the Nova Scotia RCMP. “We’re now seeing more storefronts that are closed as we continue our inspection efforts. This is an early indication that police efforts to have these storefronts cease operations is working.”
These raids follow six from last week in Potlotek, Pictou Landing and Paqtnek. Those locations are closed.
It comes just a few months after the province started a cannabis crackdown.
In December, Nova Scotia announced they would be increasing police enforcement around concerns about safety and that unregulated market.
This sparked disappointment from First Nations, one who even threatened legal action.
On March 13, Sipekne’katik First Nation created its own law on the matter, which is in effect, now.
