A community in Thorburn says they are thrilled that their local rink has been selected as the Nova Scotia pick for Kraft Hockeyville 2026.
It means the Ivor MacDonald Memorial Arena will receive $50,000 for getting to this stage of the national contest.
Kraft Hockeyville chooses an arena from each province and territory for step one, before picking a final two who will go head-to-head in a vote, vying for $250,000 in arena upgrades.
The runner-up will get $100,000.
In a statement on social media, District 13 Recreation and Planning Commission say they extend their “sincere thank you” to the organizers and “incredible community” who have shown “overwhelming support” during the campaign.
“No matter the outcome of next weeks’ Final Two selection, our campaign brought the community together. It was amazing to see so much support for our Hockeyville campaign, but it was not surprising,” says the statement.
The District says people have a “deep connection to the rink that spans generations” as well as fond memories and a sense of pride that was brought to the campaign.
“This campaign was a great reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared goal,” says the statement.
It will be on Saturday, March 21, when the top two will be announced.
