Halifax is going to become a Bee City!
HRM says Bee City Canada has recognized the municipality’s commitment to “protecting and promoting pollinators”.
It means the city will put in place habitats for pollinators, support education in the community on bees and celebrate National Pollinator Week, which is the third week of every June.
“Achieving Bee City status is a testament to the dedication of our community,” says Mayor Andy Fillmore in a news release.
He says more than 100 volunteers helped transform over 7,500 square metres of land into a habitat friendly for pollinators.
“Their generosity and hands-on leadership are what make initiatives like this possible,” says Fillmore.
There will also be access to resources from experts from Bee City Canada for the city’s Naturalization Strategy – making urban spaces more resilient.
