Dartmouth Community Fridge volunteers are reaching out for help as donations dwindle after the holidays.
The organization says that resources remain scarce, but they’re hoping to partner with local groups and be able to host monthly or bi-monthly food drives to help fill the shelves.
Dartmouth Community Fridge volunteer Christine Nottegar says, “There is a monthly sign up sheet. It’s on our social media, on our Instagram page, and sports teams, offices, local businesses, groups, families can go in and sign up and purchase food for the day or do a little food drive.”
Nottegar says that people want to help out and support their neighbors, and this is an opportunity to give back to the places where they live and work.
It’s believed that overall food prices will continue to increase by 4% to 6% in 2026 according to Canada’s Food Price Report (CFPR).
The Dartmouth Community Fridge accepts packaged foods, but cannot accept any open products, homemade goods, or raw/uncooked meats.
Items can be dropped off 24/7, and if people can’t get to Dartmouth there are a number of other fridges and pantries in other areas throughout the HRM.
