A bit of a boost for Nova Scotians who receive income assistance is on the way this year.
The province says there will be a rate increase of 1.6 per cent.
Disability Support Program participants who receive the standard household rate will also receive the same increase.
This is the second year that rates were indexed to inflation.
In 2025 they went up 3.1 per cent.
“Rising costs for essentials like rent, groceries and utilities put real pressure on household budgets,” said Barbara Adams, Minister of Opportunities and Social Development.
“By continuing to tie rates to the cost of living, we’re providing more stability for individuals and families and reinforcing our commitment to supporting those who need it most.”
This rate increase reflects the government’s commitment to support Nova Scotians who face financial challenges, according to the province.
