An unimaginable tragedy after a devastating house fire in Lower Sackville.
Alyssa Martin, a close friend of the family, confirmed on social media that three children have now died from their injuries.
Six-year-old, Chloe, passed away over the weekend, and now two more children after her.
They were nine and five years old.
The blaze started at the Duplex on Riverside Drive around 3 a.m., Saturday.
Halifax Fire told our newsroom that the fire was fast moving, and crews worked hard to battle it.
A 37-year-old woman and two-year-old girl managed to escape uninjured, while a 40-year-old man was pulled out heroically by a neighbour.
He was taken to hospital in critical condition alongside the two other children who were taken out of the home by fire crews.
RCMP confirmed Tuesday, the fire was not suspicious.
Community support
In an interview with our newsroom, another close friend Alyssa Porter, tells us the support from the community has been incredible.
“The family did not have insurance on the home, so they’ve lost everything including their pets. We are rallying as much as we possibly can. We’ve had funeral homes reach out to us to let us know they’re going to cover costs and stuff like that.”
Two GoFundMe accounts have been organized to help the families affected by the tragedy and have already raised tens of thousands of dollars.
Porter says at this point, the family needs “all the support they can get.”
