New data indicates Halifax mayoral candidate Andy Fillmore is still the favourite as the municipal election approaches.
Commissioned by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, the latest Narrative Research online poll finds 29% of respondents preferred Fillmore, up six points from August.
Rounding out the top three candidates, according to the results, are Waye Mason and Pam Lovelace.
Mason is up four points to 13%, with more support in Halifax compared to other parts of the HRM.
Lovelace saw the biggest increase since last month’s poll, up eight points to 12%, with her highest support outside of the urban core communities.
Jim Hoskins, who was not listed in the August poll (due to the registration date), was the preferred candidate for 3% percent of HRM residents. The rest of the candidates were chosen by 1% or fewer residents.
According to the Chamber’s release, “Residents are becoming more decisive in their preference for mayor. Of note, residents who are unsure of who they would prefer as mayor now make up just over one-third (37%; down 15 points). Women are twice as likely as men to be unsure of their preferred mayoral candidate (48% vs. 25%). Those living in the communities of Dartmouth, Bedford and Sackville are more likely to be undecided at this point, compared with residents in other parts of HRM.”
The Chamber plans to commission an additional poll from Narrative Research closer to the election date, which is October 19th.
