Canadians mark the 4th anniversary of the downing of Flight PS752

Vigils have been happening across the country to mark the fourth anniversary of the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752

Fifty-five Canadian citizens and 30 permanent residents were among the 176 people killed when the Islamic Republic of Iran shot down the aircraft over Tehran in January of 2020.

Those attending a memorial ceremony Monday in Richmond Hill, Ontario, observed a moment of silence.

A documentary about the victims was also shown and family members read their names and ages aloud as their photos appeared on a screen.

At the tribute, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada has placed severe sanctions on Iranian individuals and entities.

He said it means tens of thousands of members of the Islamic Republic Regime have been banned from coming to Canada.

Trudeau added they will continue to look for ways to list the IRGC as a terrorist organization.

As well, in a statement on the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Air Disasters, Trudeau said Canada and its international partners “are taking concrete action to hold Iran accountable for this senseless tragedy.”

The PM said the International Coordination and Response Group for the victims of Flight PS752 have jointly filed their case before the International Civil Organization Council to ensure the families of the victims get the justice they deserve.
