An exciting new initiative at Africville Park is helping to inform and enlighten people about real-life experiences for former residents. Five educational panels were erected at the Park at the end of May.
The panels were the result of a collaborative effort among the Africville Genealogy Society, Africville Heritage Trust, and city of Halifax.
Former resident, Bernice Byers-Arsenault hopes the informative plaques will help to serve as a tool to broaden awareness of Africville’s history.
The erection of the panels is just the first step in a new strategy to increase community knowledge and appreciation for the Park. Lyle Grant, President of the Africville Heritage Trust says there are also plans in place for a future marina.
