What will happen to burned-out forests in Shelburne County and Tantallon?
The province’s Minister of Natural Resources and Renewables says they’ll let nature take its course on crown-owned lands.
Tory Rushton said there’s already some greenery popping up in burnt areas.
“Having said that, it will be a monitoring process over the next few years. We need to do the full mapping to find out what boundaries and property lines have been impacted,” said Rushton.
When asked if the province plans on purchasing its own fixed-wing aircraft, Rushton pointed to the quick response from DNRR helicopters.
“They were putting water on fires in 52 seconds. Fixed-wing aircraft cannot do that. We do have water bombers in our fleet here in Nova Scotia.”
He says once fire scenes are wrapped up, they’ll hear recommendations from officials on the ground.
