Dozens of names and locations are on a list published by Jesuits of Canada of individuals who allegedly sexually abused children.
A document that is 10 pages long lists the accused, if there were single or multiple allegations, and a breakdown of the accused’s locations for pastoral assignments.
The accusations span over sixty years and across the country.
At the end of 2019, the church said they would release the names of those accused after completing a full file audit. While both CBC and the Globe and Mail have previously reported on this, it appears as though many of the accused individuals are deceased. The Jesuits of Canada also released a letter regarding their findings and efforts and “comprehensive procedures for receiving and investigating allegations of sexual abuse of minors. Additionally, we have established guidelines for reconciliation, healing, accountability, and prevention of future acts of abuse, as well as prevention of sexual harassment”.
The organization is asking that any person who has suffered abuse by a Jesuit notify the appropriate law enforcement or child-protection agency in the location in which the incident took place. They are further encouraged to contact Mr. William Blakeney, the Province’s delegate for allegations of misconduct.
