A woman has been appointed to the position of base chief petty officer for the first time in the history of the Royal Canadian Navy.
Alena Mondelli accepted her new role this morning at CFB Halifax.
Mondelli will be the primary advisor to base commander and will also serve as the chief disciplinarian.
Part of her duties also relate to the morale and welfare at the local base in Halifax.
She has spent nearly 30 years in the Canadian Armed Forces.
