Nova Scotia’s Minister of Labour took questions about the Minimum Wage Review Committee’s report on reaching $15 per hour.
Jill Balser was asked about how raising the rate could put stress on employers.
“It impacts Nova Scotians across the entire province,” says Balser. “We have to make sure we’re considering the needs of employees, small businesses and employers.”
If adopted, minimum wage would see it’s first increase on April first from $13.60 per hour to $14.50.
Balser says they took time last year to speak to business and community partners about the report.
“So now that it is live we expect to hear from Nova Scotians about how they feel,” says Balser. “We just want to a little more time to hear from business partners as well as Nova Scotians.”
Balser says they have until early February to decided on whether on not to adopt the report.
