The humidex has us almost feeling 40 degree heat today. While the temperature will likely only get as high as 26 or 27, the “Feels like” will be almost unbearable.
So, with that in mind, let’s try and beat the heat with a few free ways.
#3. Halifax Regional Municipality Lakes and Rivers
This is an easy one, but it does come with asterisk. There are 1,000 lakes and rivers in the HRM so if you need to submerge yourself to beat the sun, you’ve got some options. Now, that pesky asterisk kicks in when it comes to lake cleanliness. Make sure to check Halifax.ca for more info on which lakes are open and not polluted with bacteria this summer.
#2. Home Made Air Conditioner

Put a bucket of ice in front of a fan and you’re laughing. Until the ice melts that is and sadly it does happen quick. Before it melts though, it is pretty damn delightful. Now, if you don’t own a fan and would need to purchase one, that fully negates the FREE aspect. Sorry about that.
#1. Cold Foot Bath
We could have taken the easy route and just said the beach, but this is a way better way to cool you down. It’s also way more convenient than packing everything up and getting sand in your bits. Fill a bucket with cold water and ice (if you have ice trays), go outside, put the bucket on your patio and sink your feet. It doesn’t matter how hot it is outside, your body will chill almost immediately.
You’re welcome.
