Nova Scotia will soon have a new fleet of ambulances. The province has signed a contact with Tri Star Industries to lease 146 vehicles.
These ambulances were designed with input from paramedics for increased efficiency and safety. These vehicles will have rear backup cameras, updated interior and exterior lighting, radio frequency identification systems to tag and track medical equipment, a longer wheelbase and patient compartment for increased paramedic workspace and patient comfort, power loaders and power lifters to help paramedics lift patients, and redesigned interior cabinets to accommodate medical equipment.
Under the new agreement with Tri Star Industries, the province will also expand the Emergency Health Services Fleet of patient transfer units and single paramedic response units.

The mixed fleet of vehicles is in line with recommendations made by Fitch and Associates, which reviewed Nova Scotia’s emergency medical services model in 2019.
The 10-year contract with Tri Start Industries is worth 48.8 million dollars and the vehicles will hit the road next month.
