Hundreds of motorcycle riders will cross the country next month to raise awareness of the stigma surrounding PTSD.
The Rolling Barrage leaves Halifax, Nova Scotia on August 1st and will arrive in Burnaby, British Columbia on August 20th.
New Brunswick Spokesperson Darlene Thompson says this honours groups including emergency responders, veterans, and military, “Riding a motorcycle itself is therapy. I find it is great when I am having a bad day. I go for a ride. You meet so many people along the route. It was absolutely amazing to see these people come alive and share their stories and it really is something. it’s hard to describe unless you have been there to experience it.”
Thompson says it’s an incredible feeling hearing the shared stories of survival.
“The ride is to support PTSD for groups including, military, and veteran first responders, police, fire, EMS, and safety personnel. We have every walk of life that take part in the ride. One of the guys that rode with last year, was a firefighter, and civilians along the way. It’s a great way to see the country. And the camaraderie that comes out of it is just amazing.”
The public is encouraged to support riders as they pass through communities along the route across Canada.
