Hal-Con is currently looking for a number of volunteers for this year’s event, and there are a range of positions available.
Positions are for the General Volunteer, Programming Volunteer, Gaming Volunteer and Operations Volunteer teams.
General Volunteer teams are the backbone of Hal-Con’s production. They work the street teams, help with set-up and take down of the events, and they man the customer service desks to help weary travelers find their way in the halls of the con.
Programming Volunteer teams help ensure Hal-Con runs as smooth as a bandit talks. Main Stage crew make sure the show keeps going, no matter what, while the Programming Crew ensures the show runs on-time. The Costume Contest Wrangler (yes, that is the coolest title ever) helps run the ever-popular Hal-Con Costume Contest. They also wrangle any loose Pokémon, bounty hunters, and clone troopers.
Gaming Volunteer teams enforce mandatory fun and fairness in any games the con offers. RPG Game Masters (yes, that is the second coolest title ever) shape the world your favourite D&D characters embark unto. The Gaming team are the referees in any heated Smash Bros. tournaments, and ensure fair-play and rules are followed. Live Organized Gaming team set-up, organize and make any live games happen.
Operations Team deals with the media presence of Atlantic Canada’s biggest sci-fi convention. The team requires a variety of volunteers such as Drivers and Photographers. Drivers volunteer to drive around the city with grace and honor picking up coffee and important people. Photographers take pictures that last through the earth-shattering event that is Hal-Con. Those photos make you think. “I remember the time I met Boba Fett and Batman at the same time. Awesome!”
There’s also an accessibility team who makes sure Hal-Con is accessible to each and everyone in nerd-kind.
