Criticism is being levelled at Tim Houston’s government after the provincial waitlist for a family doctor hit a record high on April 1.
The Progressive Conservative Party revealed it’s long-awaited healthcare plan in the legislature on April 22.
But Liberal Health and Wellness Critic, Patricia Arab says it lacks clear timelines for reaching goals, including doctor recruitment.
“Since coming to power, we’ve seen the doctor waitlist soar under a government who’s sole mission was fixing health care,” Arab said in a news release. “Nova Scotian’s need to know when they can expect to see results, but without a definitive plan, the situation will only get worse.”
Roughly 88,300 people in Nova Scotia are on the waitlist for family doctor; the number of people needing a family doctor in the Central Zone has grown by 80 per cent under Houston’s government.
Arab notes, the PC government has removed its platform, which promised to “fix” the healthcare system, from its website. It’s been replaced with the party’s healthcare plan.
