The city wants you to hop back on the bus or take the ferry across the harbour this summer.
The municipality is set to offer free bus and ferry rides in July and August.
Under the plan, you won’t need a ticket for the bus on Friday’s and the ferry will be free on Saturday’s during those summer months.
It’ll cost about $825,000, but the city is hoping it helps bring ridership back to pre-pandemic levels.
The one-time cost will be absorbed within the Halifax Transit budget.
The municipality expects that transit ridership will take some time to fully rebound from the effects of COVID-19.
The goal behind this idea is free transit service could help to encourage former, or new riders, to take transit and familiarize themselves with routes in their neighbourhood.
The initiative is also intended to assist with business recovery, by encouraging residents and visitors to visit local shops around the municipality.
The proposal still needs to be approved by council – that will likely happen on April 14.
