Yarmouth’s MLA says there’s a positive outlook for the ‘CAT’ ferry.
The province released an economic impact study on the Nova Scotia-to-Maine service last week.
It said passengers travelling to the province on the ‘CAT’ stay longer, and spend more money, and there’s support for the service across Nova Scotia.
Nick Hilton says they’re excited for 2026, and the province will be looking at options for the future.
“And I’ll be working alongside the department to see what those options are, but overall we’re still feeling very positive, and the report helps reflect that,” said Hilton.
He says the government has been very supportive of the service, and the impact study was commissioned to make sure tax dollars are being invested correctly.
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood has called on the province to sign a long term deal, noting that tourism operators want clarity on the future.
