Canada falls to U.S in overtime in men’s gold medal game

No golden goal for Canada this time.

Jack Hughes scored the overtime winner for Team USA, as they beat Canada 2-1 to win Olympic gold in men’s hockey Sunday.

Cale Makar had Canada’s lone goal, that tied it late in the second period.

The Canadians had several high-end chances to take the lead, but U.S. goalie Connor Hellebuyck kept the game tied.

Captain Sidney Crosby missed the game due to injury, Connor McDavid wore the ‘C.’

It’s the third ever Olympic gold in men’s hockey for Team USA, Canada settles for silver.

Millions of Canadians tuned in coast-to-coast, in what is sure to be one of the most watched hockey games in history.

One of them at ‘Big Leagues’ in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, just minutes from where Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon grew up playing.

Cole Harbour MLA Leah Martin was also in attendance, and said it was a celebration.

“We are so excited to be here, with our whole community coming out to celebrate. We could not be more proud to be from Cole Harbour. We’re gritty, tough and resilient,” said Martin during the game.
