Longtime newspaper cartoonist Bruce MacKinnon was honoured on Saturday for his career.
St. Francis Xavier graduated nearly 300 students on Saturday, and alongside the group, MacKinnon was given an Honorary Doctorate of Laws Degree.
“My connections to StFX run quite deep,” MacKinnon told the crowd during a speech. He said he met his wife at StFX while he worked there during high school. He also talked about his father, who taught as a professor at the school for 30 years.
“I want to thank all the many people at StFX who work together to make it the heartbeat of this town and one of the country’s greatest universities. I owe a lot to StFX as does my entire extended family and so many others,” he added.
MacKinnon is best known for his humorous political cartoons. He has been appointed to the Order of Canada for his work and for the last 40 years, he has created editorial cartoons with the Chronicle Herald.
