UPD: Armed standoff in Pictou County ends peacefully

One person has been taken into custody in the area of Pictou Landing Road.

RCMP cordoned off the area just before 9 pm Saturday after an armed man barricaded himself inside a residence.

The public was asked to avoid the area while officers were on scene.

Police say the man was taken into custody safely just before 10 pm.

The investigation is ongoing.

Update, 9:56 p.m.: RCMP officers have taken the person into custody safely. Officers remain on scene to continue the investigation. Thank you.
