The lobster fishery in southwestern Nova Scotia was a topic in the House of Commons.
Acadie-Annapolis MP Chris d’Entremont says a crackdown is needed on unregulated and unreported fishing.
d’Entremont says coastal communities are sounding the alarm about lobster stocks being down.
He asked minister Joanne Thompson to listen to commercial fishers.
“Where her predecessors failed to act, will she take unregulated and unreported fishing seriously? Will she implement immediate measures to protect our lobster stocks before it’s too late?” said d’Entremont during Question Period.
Thompson says she met with fishers in Nova Scotia the last few weeks, and she will continue to ensure there are balanced fisheries.
