Holiday themed fun for the whole family has kicked off on the Halifax waterfront.
The Evergreen Festival is back for its fifth year.
It’s a free, outdoor event that run for four weeks with attractions such as the Evergreen market, bright light displays, music and entertainment and the return of the mascot, Spruce the Gonk.
Sarah Reeves, from Discover Halifax tells us, there will be many things to see and do, including 22 vendors.
“There’s some fire pits where you can sit and there’s also some chalets where you can check out a lot of the different vendors that are selling their wares.”
New this year
There are a few new things to experience at the festival this year.
• The hop on/hop off Evergreen Express train will take you from the Marriott down to the Cunard district through the Queens Mark courtyard.
• The Winter Sports Zone, located in the Foundation Lot South where you can play ball hockey, curling, and more.
• The Merry & Bright Patio in the Harbourfront Market, is a great place to enjoy a warm festive drink by the fire.
Charitable donations
Every year, Evergreen has teamed up with charities and this year is no different.
Feed Nova Scotia will be on site collecting donations and the Nova Scotia SPCA will also be there.
Reeves says, they are offering a special service.
“The SPCA is doing pet portraits. You can get a holiday photo, with your pet, at no charge…but donations are encouraged…only for a couple of days.”
And new this holiday season, the Ronald MacDonald House will also be there.
Evergreen festival kicks off November 22 and runs until December 15.
