A tuberculosis (TB) case at a local daycare.
According to Nova Scotia Health (NSH), it is in the province’s Central Zone.
That includes Halifax, the Eastern Shore and Windsor-West Hants.
In a statement to our newsroom, NSH says parents received a letter regarding the exposure that happened between April and June, but are not identifying the individual or the daycare out of privacy.
NSH says although it is contagious, TB is not spread through casual contact like sitting next to or talking casually to someone sick with the disease, but needs prolonged exposure.
Symptoms include things like a cough that lasts two to three weeks, fever night sweats, severe headache and confusion.
NSH adds, they are not investigating the case as a risk to the general public and have “been able to work directly with all contacts of this recent case.”
