Thrift stores have never really been out of style but the last few years have definitely seen a new wave of trendy fashion faves with the revitalization of 90s fashion and the crash and burn economy we’re living with – thrift stores are back!
Halifax has its own collection of shops worth the savings and its better to shop local anyways.
A fan favourite is always Frenchy’s, with some people going on road trips or “Frenchys Tours”
My personal favourite is the back door of the Shambala Meditation Centre in Tantallon – yes its a real shop. You go in, straight to the back, pay $20 and they hand you one of those HUGE Ikea bags and you are then free to fill that bag to your hearts content. P.S., it’s not uncommon for a few designer pieces to end up on those racks. PLUS all of the proceeds go to the St. Margaret’s Bay food bank and the shop doubles as a kitchen for the foodbank so come with your non perishables and leave with a new wardrobe!
Other shops and designers worth checking out include the Loot, Grateful wardrobe, Shotgun Vintage and even Sewscially Unacceptable – custom pop up shop size-inclusive all made from colourful upcycled fabrics.
