Loudwire attacked us all when they shared a viral Instagram reel of child calling out all the 2000s jams of our youth as “dad rock.”
First off, what is Dad Rock? I guess it’s one of those aesthetics that might be tough to pin down, but when you hear it/see it, you know.

Here’s the instagram reel listing off most of Surge’s playlist as Dad Rock.
The child in the “vintage” Metallica shirt says System of Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Muse, My Chemical Romance, Deftones, Slipknot, Bullet For My Valentine, Skillet, Fall Out Boy, Sum 41 are all Dad rock. OK, I’m a dad and I rock all those bands but I was not ready to confront my mortality so early on a Tuesday morning after the long weekend.
We had a text on the show from Amanda in Hammonds Plains, “if that is dad rock, what is mom rock?” Well I guess, the same if you’re a mom and rock those bands. What would you add to our Dad/Mom rock list, please leave a comment (and DO NOT INCLUDE ANY 2000s EMO ANTHEMS or I’ll cry).
