I don’t know what is going on with ads this holiday season, but some of them are so depressing.
The first one is from Amazon. This ad, directed by Taika Waititi, doesn’t come right out and say it, however it is heavily implied that the mother of this family has passed away. It seems the snowglobe holds a special place in his daughter’s heart, maybe reminding her of her Mom since she placed it at her spot on the table.
The Dad, with the help of the community, and Amazon, creates something very special for his daughter.
Here is the extended version:
Next Coke of all people decided to get into the dead parent business with this ad. We see a guy trying to cook his Mom’s recipe with her help. A great moment, until we find out that she is a ghost!
This doesn not make me want a Coke, it makes me want to call my therapist. Bring back the Polar Bears!
Chevrolet decided to not have a dead Mom, but a dead Husband as we saw how one car was there through the moments of a person’s life.
This is a great ad, but again, why does it have to be so sad?
Just for fun, remember when Cineplex dropped these in front of movies?
They got me every time.
